Letter from many corners of the world in solidarity with the EZLN

From our Zapatista compañeros we have learned, from their steps, from the history they have changed, from the lessons they have taught and their teachings on freedom. Today we share their rage and their grief.

Some of the ones signing this letter were students from the Escuelita Zapatista (Zapatista School), others were not, but we know that the teachers, votanes, guardians, are exemplary human beings that with dignity taught us and shared with us their daily life in that world that is being built from below in the mountains of the Mexican southeast. We know that
the Zapatista struggle has been a school of dignity that has sown defiance and hope in the whole world.  The agression of May 2nd against the Caracol of La Realidad profoundly outraged all of us that see in the Zapatista struggle something very deep: a reference, a path, an inspiration, a way to see, do, live and resist that moves us.

The murder of compañero Galeano, of a votan (guardian), of a teacher, of one of those many voices that are now the voices through which the EZLN speaks and shares with the world that other world that grows in autonomy, that murder is an aggression against all of us that have learned and keep learning from the many votanes that showed us and are showing us the face
of freedom.

What can be understood from this paramilitary aggression that got to the centre of La Realidad? What is the intent of those bullets, those blows and that murder? What are the intentions of the governments of Manuel Velasco (Chiapas) and Enrique Peña Nieto?

If what they are trying is to measure how much they can attack, how much they can keep on attacking, how much they can intensify the war against the Zapatistas, they can know that the world is watching, that no other lie on the media about conflicts “between communities and organizations”, nor the old versions that the Zapatistas are the attackers, nor all the
poison and violence that is sent from power with do against so much rage, defiance and solidarity spilled everywhere.

The murder of compañero Galeano, the way in which he was killed is the evidence of the cowardice of power, of those who hide behind bullets, of those who want to beat and maim justice, of those who want to give freedom a coup de grace.

We demand a halt to the strategy of war and paramilitarization against the Zapatista communities.
