June 2015 marks ten years since the latest Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle was published. In it, the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN) explains its birth, its experience as an organization, and also details in an analysis the reality of the country and the world.

“This is our simple word which seeks to touch the hearts of humble and simple people like ourselves, but who are also, like ourselves, dignified and rebel,” the statement of the EZLN begins.

In it at this time the proposal was launched to reach an agreement between people and organizations of the left: “because we think that a plan of struggle so that our Patria, which is Mexico, does not die, can only come from the left.”

“What we think is that, with these persons and organizations of the left, we will make a plan to go to all parts of Mexico where there are humble and simple people like us,” said the Sixth.

During these ten years, the Sixth has been addressed by the Zapatistas in different ways and with various strategies, among which are the Other Campaign, the Zapatista Little School (which will reopen for second level students this year) the World Festival of Resistances and Rebellions against Capitalism and the Seminar Critical Thought Against the Capitalist Hydra.

With the creation of the caracoles 12 years ago, and of the Sixth, the EZLN opted for autonomy and the creation of a network of people, movements, collectives and peoples away from the political parties.

To follow we reproduce three chronicles of the Zapatista Little School where some of the teachings are elaborated on the form of autonomous government of the indigenous of Chiapas, as well as the feelings which led to this learning.

The following links are all in Spanish:

First part: The arrival

Second part: The Votan

Third part: Resistance towards a new dawn

We also include the electronic version of the Sixth produced by Koman Ilel and shared for this tenth anniversary.
