Organized families from the the San Francisco community in the municipality of Teopisca, Chiapas, denounced that a group of militant people from the Green Party of Mexico blocked their way out of Teopisca, “they were a few metres from our reclaimed land, trying to intimidate us and preventing compañeros of the Sixth from passing through. Allies (of the PVEM) with another shock group, mainly from El Escalon, municipality of San Cristobal de las Casas and other communities, invade our recovered lands which we have occupied. We recovered the land because we are original people, we have been paeons and indentured servants for 200 years.”

To the National Indigenous Congress (CNI)

To civil society in general

We are a group of campesinos and campesinas from San Francisco, adherents to the sixth declaration of the Lacandona jungle and in defence of the land and territory of the indigenous peoples.

Today, August 15th, we again denounce Pedro Hernández Espinosa who initiated a demand for displacement in the district court of Teopisca. They held an investigation and on August 17th, 2015, the judge ordered seven arrest warrants within the criminal proceedings 38/2015 in the first court in San Cristobal de las Casas, against our compañeros of the Sixth and of our group in defence of land and territory, adherents of the Sixth Declaration of the EZLN. Now they are being sought after by the police to be captured and judged by the laws of the bad government.

Meanwhile, we have already filed an injunction (amparo) to demonstrate that we are not committing any crime, and the only thing that we are doing is defending the land which is ours. We also want to denounce again the shock group organized by Pedro Hernández Espinosa, Francisco de la Cruz Estrada and Felipe de la Cruz Alvarez, who on July 31st, arrived in our recovered lands again and occupied them showing with false documents (contracts of buying and selling) that they are now the owners of our lands, pretending to be the group in resistance named “Luz y Fuerza del Pueblo”, adherents to the Sixth, members of the community of El Escalón and of other communities.

We hold Pedro Hernández Espinosa and the shock group that wants to invade our land responsible for everything that happens in our struggle.

We demand the immediate cancellation of the seven arrest orders issued against our seven compañeros. We also name the three levels of government and the associated authorities responsible for whatever damage or detention is carried out against our compañeros and members of our group in defence of land and territory. We demand the legitimate recognition of our recovered land and of our ancestral rights.

Sincerely,

Organized Group of San Francisco

To national and international adherents to the Sexta

To human rights defenders

To the Councils of Good Government

To the alternative media

To the National Indigenous Congress (CNI)

To the general public

We are a group of men and women campesinos from San Francisco. We are adherents to the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle (the Sexta), and live in defence of the land and the territory as indigenous people.

Today, 13 June 2016, we publicly denounce Mr Pedro Hernandez Espinoza who launched a lawsuit to evict us from this land with the Teopisca District Attorney.  An investigation was undertaken and according to the legal brief 38/2015 of the first court of San Cristobal on 17 August 2015 the judge issued 7 apprehension orders for our colleagues, members of the Sexta and our group who live in defence of the land and territory. These days our colleagues are being pursued by the police for detention and judgment by the laws of the Bad Government.

Meanwhile, we have filed an injunction to show that we are not committing any crime, and all we are doing is defending what is ours, which is this land.

We also denounce Mr Fransisco de la Cruz Estrada who is a colleague and accomplice of Pedro Hernandez Espinoza. They got together a group to attack us, and stormed our reclaimed land, where for more than 2 centuries we have lived.

The past Sunday, 5 June of this year, a group of men, women and children all armed with machetes arrived here to our community, built on reclaimed land, San Francisco. They are indigenous people, but we don’t know where from. They came with the intention to buy this land from the former land owner but also knowing that this is reclaimed land, occupied by people from this region and we collectively eat and live thanks to the land.

Since July 2012, we have a banner hanging which says this land is not for sale. 28 April 2014 we formally declared the area “El Desengaño” as reclaimed land and we planted corn and beans to sustain our families. Ever since, we, as a group living in defence of the land, have tried on several occasions to talk and come to some kind of agreement with Mr Pedro Hernandez Espinoza. We want him to respect our struggle and not make agreements with other groups, but no formal talks have ever taken place. He promised to remove his livestock in September, but more than 2 years went by and he hadn’t done it. So at the beginning of 2016 we sent him a document asking him to keep his word and in February he send someone to remove the livestock and all of his animals were handed over.

For all these reasons we demand the immediate cancellation of the 7 apprehension orders for our 7 compañeros. If not, we will hold the 3 levels of bad government and all involved authorities responsible for whatever harm or detention may occur to our compañeros and members of our group in defense of the land and the territory.

We also notify the bad government that if they carry out the7 apprehension orders, it would only provoke more problems for them and that for now it’s better to dedicate themselves to resolving the big problems they have now, like the teachers’ movement.

We ask all international and national compañeros of the Sexta and the National Indigenous Congress (CNI) to keep watch over our struggle and what may happen in the future.

“An injury to one, is an injury to all”

Sincerely,

the Organised Group from San Fransisco, Teopisca municipality, Chiapas, Mexico, adherents to the EZLN Sixth Declaration

San Francisco Teopisca defends its land

After 19 years of defending their land, provocations continue against San Francisco Teopisca, an adherent to the sixth

San Francisco Teopisca, Chiapas, Mexico.

“We place responsibility on the 3 levels of government for what can happen to any one of our compañeros for not giving priority to our land demands that we demand as campesinos. We also place responsibility on Señor Pedro Hernández Espinoza for any physical harm that any of our compañeros may suffer.” (Campesinos and campesinas of San Francisco, municipio of Teopisca, Chiapas México, January 10, 2016.)

To the EZLN

To the CNI (Congreso Nacional Indígena, National Indigenous Congress)

To the adherents to the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandón Jungle

To the alternative communications media

To the human rights defenders

To national and international society

We are a group of men and women adherents to the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandón Jungle since 2009, when we started in the struggle as the Other Campaign. Currently, we are part of Semilla Digna (Dignified Seed), which is a group formed by communities of the Sixth in Chiapas, belonging to the CNI. Our struggle is the defence of land and territory.

In 1995, we campesinos started to take steps with the state government of Chiapas to legalize the piece of land called “El Desengaño,” approximately 170 hectares (421 acres) owned by Pedro Hernández Espinoza. But the government never gave us a solution to our need for land. Much time passed and we saw that it was impossible that the government would attend to our request. We decided to occupy these lands because we have the legitimate right being the original peoples and the right to free determination as Convention 169 of the ILO points out.

We have been defending these lands for 19 years, organizing men and women and after several years we decided to formally work these lands. In 2012, we placed a banner on which it says that these lands are ours for the reasons mentioned on March 24, 2014. We placed various hand-painted signs (letreros) to declare and demand our legitimate right. On July 19, 2014, we declared ourselves to be in formal possession of “El Desengaño.”

On September 24, we campesinos once again pronounced that we would continue working it. We, the campesinos of this San Francisco group, have been looking for the most kind and peaceful way to dialogue with Señor Pedro Hernandez Espinoza. We have extended various invitations in various ways, but he never accepted or fulfilled any invitation we made. Now, Señor Hernández Espinoza’s animals are kept in a smaller space and we gave him 5 days to come and take them out, because we hold to our word that we don’t want the animals, WE WANT THE LAND.

We place responsibility on the 3 levels of government for what could happen to any of our compañeros because of not giving priority to our demands for the land that the campesinos urgently need. We also place responsibility on Señor Pedro Hernández Espinoza for any physical harm that any of our compañeros may suffer.

Sincerely,

Organized Group of Teopisca, Chiapas, Mexico
